Welcome to the 59th Annual Tipp City Mum Festival

On behalf of all the Mum Festival committee and volunteers, I am honored to welcome everyone to the 2017 Tipp City Mum Festival. The theme this year is "Honoring Our Heroes". I thought long and hard about a theme. As a retired veteran, my thoughts kept coming back to our military, which protect our freedoms in the far corners of this troubled world we live in. However, I just could not pull the proverbial “trigger” for just our military. Evening after evening, I saw others worthy of honor. It seemed like an evening hasn’t gone by that a police officer hasn’t been shot at, stabbed or disrespected. I also read of incidents where our local sheriff deputies and State Highway Patrol are “greeted” with obscene gestures, threatened, bitten, and run over all while serving to protect each and every one of us. And finally, who could leave firemen and EMS out of this group. They unselfishly give of themselves to protect property and save the lives of those they may never meet again. This year, and for many years to come, I hope you join me in honoring these very special men and women in a variety of uniforms!

As President of your Mum Festival, I have challenged each Committee Chair to add some spice to the festival by doing at least two things differently. This transformation starts with an all new website (coming soon) and includes changes to the Queen’s and Little Miss and Mr. Mum Pageants. I hope the changes will add a little more fun to your Mum Festival experience this year. For a complete list of all activities and entertainment, please visit The Festival's website at: www.tippcitymumfestival.org (if you are reading this on the website, just click around to see what is happening this year).

The festival activities kick off with the Queen’s Pageant on Wednesday, May 24th at 7:00 pm at the Tipp City High School Auditorium. The timing is earlier in the year allowing senior winners time to apply the new, improved scholarship package to their school expenses. The event will continue to be free of charge and we are looking forward to family and friends attending to support their candidate.

On Sunday, September 10th, the 11th Annual Mum Festival Motorcycle Charity Ride takes place. All proceeds from this ride benefit the Tipp City Needy Basket. We will present the check during the Mum Festival on Sunday afternoon, September 24th.

Festival weekend events begin on Friday night, September 22nd at 4 p.m. with the 26th Annual Antique and Show Car Cruise-In. In 2016, we again had over 800 vehicles on display. This is one of the bigger car shows in the area and the largest festival car show in Ohio. One more added feature, the cost to attend is right: FREE. T-shirts and your favorite treats will be available for a few dollars. I hope you enjoy this event…it is one of my personal favorites.

Saturday morning, September 24th the festivities begin with the Run for the Mums at 8 a.m. in the City Park, followed by the annual Mum Festival Parade. The parade route travels down Main Street through Historic Downtown Tipp City. The parade begins at 10 a.m. with local and surrounding area bands, floats, clowns, classic cars, and many other entertaining units. This year we will have a special treat with many WWII and Vietnam era military vehicles.

After the parade, be sure to visit the festival at the Tipp City Park, located at the intersection of North Third Street and Parkwood Drive. Visitors to the festival in the Park will find over 250 booths with great arts and crafts, delicious festival treats, and a wide variety of merchants. We also have a large stage and provide wonderful entertainment consisting of the best local talent. The park will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to ~6 p.m. Sunday.

The Little Mr. and Miss Mum Pageant will be a little different this year. We will be conducting the pageant as part of Entertainment on the main stage on Saturday, September 23rd at 1:00 pm. We know all the participants will love the added audience and we believe all Festival goers shall enjoy seeing our future leaders vie for their respective crowns.

Children, big and small, will enjoy the 17th Annual MumKids Land held on the tennis court inside the park. Allow the kids to burn off some energy while playing on the inflatables and participate in other activities from Noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who, without them, we would not be bringing you one of the top festivals in Ohio. From the Officers, Trustees, Committee Chairs, helpers for each committee to the excellent support we receive from the City of Tipp City and their employees, we thank you all. Many people have come together starting last January, giving freely of their time to make this year’s Mum Festival a special experience for you. If you would like to be a part of this event, talk to any of our volunteers or go to the “Contact Us” tab on our website to get started or just email: tippcitymumfestival.org to volunteer. We would love to have you be a part of this event.

I also want to thank our numerous sponsors for their generous contributions to the Mum Festival. Without the help and support of these people and organizations, the Mum Festival would not be possible. Again, we thank everyone for their support and hope you will enjoy the Tipp City Mum Festival.
